Obituary of Paul R. Kambies

Paul R. Kambies, age 92 of Garnet Valley, PA passed away peacefully on November 9, 2018 at home. Born and raised in Wilkes-Barre, PA, Paul was proud of his heritage as a Coal Cracker. He resided in Bethel Twp. since 1980, previously residing in the Ogden section of Upper Chichester, PA. After graduating high school, Paul joined the Marine Corps and served during WWII in the Pacific Arena, mainly Guam, Iwo Jima, Truk Attols and Tsintao China. After serving in the military, Paul tried to make a living in construction jobs and realized he needed to further his education. He eventually went to school at the University of Maryland and their Glenn L. Martin College of Aeronautical Engineering where he graduated with a B.S. in Engineering in 1953. Since then he worked in various industries throughout Pennsylvania including Linde Air Products in Essington, Boeing Helicopters Company in Ridley Park and eventually the Department of Defense at Boeing for over 42 years retiring in 2002. Paul was a member of Delaware County Fireman's Association, Delaware Veterans Post #1, Concord Masonic Lodge 625, all serving as treasurer or on the finance committee. He also belonged to the West End Boat Club, American Legion Lenni Mills post 87 and Bethel VFW Post 6835 and served as a past member and president of the Upper Chichester Twp. Commissioners. In addition to his parents, John and Aleta Shimcot Kambies, Paul is preceded in death by 3 brothers, Robert, Ewald and Herbert Kambies and a stepson, Donald Kulis. He is survived by his wife, Florence Dantinne Kambies, 2 children, Karen (Mike) McGurk and John (Ginny) Kambies, 4 step children, Raymond (Karen) Kulis, Carol Wandling, Lorraine (Pete) Muavero and Michelle Pontillo, 27 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Wednesday 9:30-11:00AM, at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd., Garnet Valley, PA followed by a Masonic Service and Funeral Service at 11AM. Interment will remain private. Donations in his memory may be made to Delaware Veterans Post#1, 2535 Veterans Drive, Wilmington, DE 19810.
