I am deeply saddened to hear of Dr Shah's passing. He was my OT professor some 30 years ago impressing us with his passion, competence and involvement of people at the receiving end of our profession's services. He also articulated a powerful vision and methodology for our profession's potential to benefit society, if we remembered to be person / client focused. He was assertive and could have been arrogant but instead he was truly caring. I will be forever grateful for him looking out for me when I was struggling. More recently he reconnected through online OT networks and supported my community work and activism here in Australia, again something he didn't have to do as a 'professional'. He was a real man, a good man. Hope you know the impact you had on me and others Surya. Thank you to your family for sharing you with us.

Surya was head of school and lecturer during my years as student in occupational therapy at University of Qld, Australia - 1977 - 1980. As well as being a fine academic and adding significantly to our practice standards for stroke rehab, Surya was a delightful gentleman.
I often drove him to and from pracs around Brisbane and enjoyed his company and good humour. Those days were pre-computerisation, and Surya carried the entire and only copy of his PHD research with him at all times in a locked briefcase! I will always think of him with fondness and respect.

Suryia taught me so much about neurology and neuro-anatomy. Such a strong knowledge base and such an amazing lecturer. I am still working with the brain nearly 40 years later. He certainly shaped my career.
Sincere sympathy to his family, certainly has left an amazing legacy. WAIT 1975 to 1979

Dr. Surya Shah was my advisor and a great Guru. He helped me a lot when I was in search of a job and guided me so much as an Occupational Therapist. I have idolized him and I want to bring the name of India to a global position just like he did. We, in India, have grown up hearing about his awesome experiences as an occupational therapy Guru. He even celebrated the birth of my daughter and I'm so glad that I got a chance to meet him in person and spend some memorable time with him at American Occupational Therapy Annual conference and had a memorable time. My condolences to his family.

I am so sad to hear of the passing of Surya Shah. I was an occupational therapy student of his at the University of Queensland from 1986 - 1989. He was such an inspiration to me as a student, occupational therapist and researcher. I know that I would not be the person I am today without Surya's exceptional teaching and guidance. Surya was always so proud of his, then, very young daughter and I am sure that she has grown up to be a fine woman. My condolences to Surya's family. I will never forget the impact he has had on my life and career.

So sorry for your loss. Surya was one of my professors at UT Memphis, class of 2005. I really enjoyed having him as a professor. He truly cared for his students and had a passion for helping others. I got the opportunity to drive him home a few times when he decided to get rid of his car to use only public transport. He had a good sense of humor and a good heart. He had an impact on all of us during school. We are sending you thoughts and prayers.

My condolences to Dr. Shah's family on his passing. You were his joy, and he spoke of you with warmth and pride.
Knowing Suri, and sitting under his tutelage, was an unmatched pleasure and honor. He had the most justification to be arrogant and impressed with himself, yet he presented as one of the most humble and gentle people I have ever known...unless he sensed arrogance and intimidation directed towards the less powerful.
He set an example for scholarly behavior and the treatment of others that I have struggled to emulate, and he will be sorely missed.
Blessings to his family, and I hope your many tender memories of him provide some measure of comfort.
Love from Memphis, Tim Taylor

For occupational therapy practitioners across the world, Dr. Surya Shah has raised the bar very high for Clinical scholarship! His life work is reflected in the many therapists across the world that he influenced. He will be greatly missed.

Surya, as he would insist I called him after graduation, was such a remarkable professor, friend, and mentor. He made his mark not only through research but also in the love he outpoured to his students. I cannot thank him enough for his encouragement. I swore he must have had a social media manager with how he managed to kept in touch with so many. You will be missed but not forgotten. I hope to see you again. To his wife, daughter, and family I send my condolences and know we are holding you all in our hearts.
