We were saddened to hear of Billy's passing. We both have fond memories of working with Billy at the New York Times Circulation Department for many years. Be assured you are all in our prayers at this difficult time. We will always treasure the happy times in the field when we were known as the Circulation departments, "Three Amigos"

Dear Fran and Family, Out heartfelt sympathy to all of you at this difficult time. I'm sharing a poem that was read at my father's funeral 30 years ago this month. I think the poem also describes our feelings about Bill.
God saw he was getting tired, And a cure was not to be.
So He put His arms around him, And whispered "Come with me",
With tearful eyes we watched him suffer, And saw him fade away.
Although we loved him dearly, We could not make him stay.
A golden heart stopped beating, Hard working hands to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,

I rode the LIRR with Bill for many years. I was very sorry to learn of his passing, when I read Newsday this morning. He was a really good guy and it was a pleasure to spend so much time with him. I hope that the passage of time will help Fran and the family ease the pain of this loss.

So sorry to hear Bill passed. My family was in the newspaper business and new him. I got to work with him when I worked for City&Suburban delivery system in College Point with Richard Schatzel and Rick Ueland. He taught me alot about the industry and had great stories. Rest In Peace Bill.

My prayers and thoughts are with Fran and the Hammond Family. At our Fox Hill Farm Community, we have a group of volunteers who do small maintenance jobs around the Clubhouse and the neighborhood. Bill was a member of that team. He was always helpful and always wore a big friendly smile. After our work, we’d socialize and Bill would talk about sports and his New York Teams. He will be missed by everyone.
