Mom,
I think of you every day.
One of the memories I keep coming back to is the trail you made down to the creek. At the time, it was simply a path through the woods—a way for us to get to a place where so many childhood memories would be made.
I understand it differently now.
You weren't just making a trail through the woods. In so many ways, you spent your life making trails for the people who came behind you. Through the things you taught us, the things you did for others, and the love you gave your family, you left paths for us to follow.
Since you've been gone, I've realized that some of the best parts of you are still here. They live in your children, your grandchildren, your great-grandchildren, and in the memories and lessons we continue to carry forward.
I wish I had said some things more often while you were here. So I'll say the most important one now.
I love you, Mom. I miss you, and I am thankful for the trail you made for all of us.
I hope we're doing a good job following it.
