Obituary of Albert J. Melfi Jr.
Albert J Melfi, Jr., age 71 of Glen Mills, PA passed away on March 1st after a long illness. Born in Philadelphia and raised in Yeadon, PA, Al was a resident of Glen Mills for 13 years and prior a longtime resident of Aston, PA. He was a 1970 graduate of Monsignor Bonner and a 1974 graduate of Philadelphia College of Textile and Science where he earned his bachelor's degree in accounting. Al was a longtime banker servicing the Philadelphia area along with the Delaware and Chester Counties. He served on many boards including the Chester and Delaware Counties Chamber of Commerce and numerous non-profit boards. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Yeadon Fire Company for over 15 years and one of the first trained EMTs for Delaware County. He loved being a firefighter and talked about it often. He never met a stranger, whenever he was out he ran into someone he knew. Al was always there to lend a helping hand and help businesses achieve their goal and dreams. He loved spending time with his family, volunteering his time, cooking on the grill, and was known for his famous gravy and meatballs. He enjoyed watching his beloved Phillies and Eagles, going to Ocean City, MD, golfing, and traveling to Italy. Al is preceded in death by both of his parents, Albert J Melfi, Sr., and Margaret "Peg" Gibbone Melfi. He is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Laura Faggioli Melfi, two daughters, Nicole Melfi, and Erica (Mike) Iacono, and his most precious granddaughter, Natalie Bernadette Iacono. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret (Joe) DiFranco, his brother, Damian (Darlene) Melfi, his cousin who was like a sister, Mary Kathryn Reynolds, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 6th, from 10:15AM to 12:00PM at Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Church, 8 Cavanaugh St., West Chester, PA, followed by a 12:00PM Funeral Mass. Interment, S.S. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Al's memory may be made to the Dementia Society of America (www.dementiasociety.org) or the Parkinson’s Foundation (www.parkinson.org).
