Obituary of Stephen A. Medvid

Stephen A. Medvid of Garnet Valley, PA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on March 24, 2023. Born in Mahanoy City, PA, son of Stephen and Catherine Tolundis Medvid, he was raised in Brookhaven and has resided in Garnet Valley for the past 25 years. He graduated from St. James High School in 1956 and joined the Air Force, being honorably discharged in 1960. He then worked at Sealy Mattress Company and Habbersett before eventually starting his own wholesale meat and cheese provisions business which he operated as a sole proprietor for over 40 years until his retirement in 2005. An avid sports fan, he loved watching the Phillies, Eagles and Villanova basketball and had a lifelong love of softball. He played men's fastpitch softball as a catcher for years and coached many youth softball teams over the decades including Garnet Valley High School, Chichester Thunder Softball and TLC Sports Complex. An avid outdoorsman, he loved spending time in Tioga County, PA walking the mountains and hunting with the Chester Sportsman's Club of which his father was one of the founding members in 1946. He treasured time spent with his family and friends and was known as someone who would do anything for anyone. In addition to his late parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Anna Marie Medvid. Stephen is survived by his loving wife, Susanne; five children, Cindy Romanick, Stephen (Margaret), Elaine (Kevin) Rutz, Caitlin and Austin; eight grandchildren, Jocelyn and Stephen Medvid, Allison (Andrew) Revels, Melissa Romanick, Gregory, Thomas, Michael and Jack Rutz; two step-grandchildren, Gregory and Allyson Panaccione; and one great-grandchild, Breelyn Revels. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 31st from 9:00AM -10:00AM at St. Cornelius Catholic Church, 160 Ridge Rd., Chadds Ford, PA followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM.
