Obituary of William Patrick Mortimer Sr.

William Patrick Mortimer, Sr. age 91, of Aston, PA passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, March 18, 2023.  Born and raised in Chester, PA, son of Martin and Catherine O'Malley Mortimer, he resided in Aston for the past 56 years.  He graduated in 1949 from St. James High School in Chester. He started working at Sun Oil Company in 1951. In 1952 was drafted by the US Army and served his country in Korea achieving the rank of Corporal. After an Honorable Discharge in 1954, resumed his career at Sun Oil. He worked his way from the refinery to R&D, to the corporate offices in Philadelphia as a Refinery Project Coordinator. He ended his formal career as a Quality Assurance Manager for all fuels, helping to establish quality control standards at refineries in NJ, OH, and PA. Retiring in 1991, he went back as a consultant for Sunoco Logistics Partners, retiring again in 2000 with 49 total years of service. He was a former member of St Joseph Catholic parish in Aston, PA and was a parishioner at St. John Fisher Catholic Church in Boothwyn, PA, and Our Lady Star of the Sea in Cape May, NJ. He loved spending time at his Cape May beach homes, doing yard work, working on his houses, golfing, family gatherings, and was an avid Phillies, Eagles and Notre Dame football fan. He was also active in the St.James Alumni Association and was a member on the St. James Wall of Honor Committee. In addition to his late parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia A Mortimer; his son, William P. Mortimer, Jr who passed in July 2019; and his brother, Martin M. Mortimer.  William is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Maryann Reist Mortimer; five children, Kathleen (Paul) Rick, Mary Ellen (Mark) Scheidecker, Ann Marie (Brad) Brittingham, Michael (Erica) Mortimer, Daniel (Bridget) Mortimer; eighteen grandchildren, Paul, Justin, Alyson, Patrick, Elizabeth, Meghan, Colin, Caitlin, Sean, Haili, Ceara, Daniel, Gabriella, Selena, Don, Molly, Meaghan, and Clare; three great-grandchildren, Matthew, Ava and Rowen; his brother, John J. Mortimer, his sister, Kathleen (John) Deemer; and his sister in law, Georgianne Mortimer.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 9 AM to 10:45 AM at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 4225 Chichester Ave, Boothwyn, PA followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM.  Interment will follow at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA. In lieu of flowers please consider
