Obituary of Alva Edith Holcombe

Alva E. "Punky" Aley Holcombe, age 88 of Glen Mills, PA passed away at home on Friday, February 17, 2023. She left this world standing on her feet "getting something done". Born in Chester PA, a daughter of Elwood and Pearl Bell Aley, she was an original "Pioneer" resident of Maris Grove Senior Living Community for the past 16 years; previously residing in Brookhaven for over 52 years. Alva attended West Chester State Teachers College and taught at the Junior High School level. She also taught painting at her home and at Maris Grove. Alva was known for her artistic abilities, including painting, glass work, and gourd carving. She very much enjoyed traveling and camping with her family throughout the United States, her trips abroad to Europe and vacationing in Surfside Beach, SC. She had previously been a Sunday School teacher, Youth Group Director and church choir leader. She was preceded in death by her parents. Alva is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Alan C. Holcombe. Her energy and spirit will continue through her children, Karan (Jeffrey) Saitto, Keith (Melissa) Holcombe, Karlene Lafferty, Kristan (RoseAnn) Holcombe, her 13 grandchildren; Emily Barrett, Briton (Amy Bork) Barrett, Kelle (Ralph) Patton, Jenna (Sven Prim) Holcombe, Shane (David) Riser, Gary Huntsman, Amanda (Nathan) Dunn, Rachel (Ray) Fuller, Shannon (Jason) Holland, Andrew(Hannah) Holcombe, Samantha Howell, Matthew Holcombe, and Brian Lafferty, and 21 great grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 24 from 11 to 12 pm, followed by a celebration service at 12pm at the Maris Grove Chapel, 200 Maris Grove Way, Glen Mills PA.
