Jennifer Fenn posted a condolence
Tuesday, February 7, 2023
I’m Jennifer Fenn and I’m Josephine’s granddaughter.
Grandma was born in 1930 and lived in Bethel Township for all 92 years of her life. She grew up on a farm with her siblings and married my Grandpa Tom in 1948. They were married for 63 years, had two sons and enjoyed trips to Potter County and Assateague Island.
Grandma worked as a school paraprofessional, where she got to know and assist many students who remember her decades later. She was at Concord Elementary while I was a third grader there. At recess, Grandma used to slip me butterscotch and Mary Jane candies. On days off from school, she’d take Mike and I to breakfast at Goodies and we’d play Chinese checkers and Rummy Kub.
I also have fond memories of special outings with Grandma. She took my brother and I to see the Olympic torch as it was passed down Rte 202 on its way to the 1996 Atlanta games. She also took us on a memorable trip to the Herr’s Factory in Nottingham; based on my recollections of how much fun we had, I plan to take my own daughters this summer and I know I will think of Grandma and Grandpa and smile. And Grandma often took Mike and I for walks in the woods behind her house, which, as a child, felt like a big adventure!
Grandma was a decades-long member of Siloam United Methodist Church and was officially the church historian, but she was the unofficial family and township historian, always offering updates on family and friends.
Grandma enjoyed bird-watching and it seemed like she knew the name of every bird. I feel lucky to have had Grandma in my life for so long, and I’m so glad she got to know my daughters. Whenever we see birds gathered at a feeder this spring, we will remember her and all the ways she touched our lives.

My journey with Josephine
Our paths crossed at Crozer Chester hospital’s maternity ward over 60 years ago. We didn’t realize that fact until years later. We moved into Garnet woods and our children attended the same schools. As life brings many twists and turns, our children married, and gave us both two wonderful grandchildren. We shared many church and school events. There were birthdays and Christmas gatherings. We both were so proud to have for the first time a family member attend college. Both families enjoyed the process of getting Jennifer settled in her dormitory and celebrated her many accomplishments. Grandma Mc D as we called her was very close with her grandson, Mike. He lived with grandmom for several years and was great company for her. They became best buds. For the last few years he acted as her caretaker and did an awesome job. We both are very lucky to have also shared two beautiful great granddaughters, Zadie and Ivy. We will all miss her and her kindness. She will now return to the love of her life, Tom. Our sympathy goes out to the family. May the memories you have bring you healing. And Josephine may you rest in peace.

Talley posted a condolence

We always called her Eenie. I don't know who came up with that name, but that is what Mom (Barbara Talley Brown) called her. Mom loved her so much, as did I. She always made us feel welcome, wherever we met. I will always remember her smile, her kind words, her constant concern for the family, and her love. I am so terribly sorry the family will have to live without her hugs.
