Obituary of Joseph Szurgyjlo Jr.

Joseph Szurgyjlo, Jr., age 68, of Glen Mills, PA passed away on April 17, 2022 at home surrounded by his family. Born to The Late Joseph and Grace Baudoux Szurgyjlo in Boothwyn, PA, he had resided in Glen Mills for the past 11 years. Joseph was a graduate of Chichester High School, Class of 1971. Joseph raised his kids in the Gardendale section of Upper Chichester until spending the last 10 years in Glen Mills. He worked as an Electrician for over 40 years for Local IBEW 654, and retired 11 years ago to enjoy his family. In retirement, as a handyman he enjoyed helping his kids with various projects and making trips to Booths Corner. He loved spending time at his beach house in Fenwick Island as well as his cabin in Potter County. A man of many interests; he enjoyed reading books, attending concerts and listening to music, his favorite singer being Roy Orbison. In addition, he practiced Judo, was a certified scuba diver and also a Cub Scout Leader, even being a life scout himself. He volunteered his time doing electrical work for the Chichester Crusaders and coached baseball for many years at Chichester Baseball League. He never missed his grandson's games at Brandywine Youth Center, helping whenever he could, most knew him as "Poppop." Joseph was a kind, caring, loving person who devoted his time to his family. In addition to raising his own kids he fostered children, he was always there for those in need, and nothing was ever too much for him. Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Diletta M. Szurgyjlo, 3 children; Nicole (Bruce) Costa, Joseph (Samantha) Szurgyjlo III, and Gabrielle (Nick Horn) Szurgyjlo, 6 grandchildren; Taylor, Marissa, and Michael Costa, Ella Grace and Callie Szurgyjlo, and soon-to-be Nicholas Horn, Jr., and 2 sisters; Kathy (Ronald) Hamp and Linda White, and beloved grand-dogs Maggie and Mickey. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 25 from 9:30-11AM at Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd, Garnet Valley, PA followed by a Funeral Service at 11AM.
