Joe, I and our daughters often shopped at the "hut"! John seemed to know everyone by name! We would hang around just to chat! Unfortunately, we were away when John passed away and feel so bad that we missed his service. May he rest in peace. It's so sad to pass the "hut" knowing that he's gone.
Our kindest thoughts are with you!

My first job was working at the Produce Hut. Mr. Merion taught me that hard work and kindness were important virtues. He was always friendly, kind, and generous. I have fond memories of having lunch together at the Hut- Italian roll, tomato sauce, peppers and onions. Every time I have a fig or pick out a cantaloupe I think of him. Mr. Merion leaves a lasting legacy in our community. May he Rest In Peace.

Mr. Merion was a rare personification of kindness and modesty. Many GV kids, including my daughter, got their start at The Produce Hut learning much more than produce and retail. His patient leadership encouraged them and made him their mentor and friend. All his customers were family. Always time to chat. I feel privileged to have known him. You will be missed.

John's face, personality and kindness added to the quality of life in our community and to me personally. His presence will be greatly missed and I know we will all think of him every time we drive past the Produce Hut, which will be several times a day forever. I looked forward to going to Merion's Produce Hut to buy fruits and vegetables for my family and tomato plants in the summer. Whenever I'd come in John always greeted me and we talked about our gardens and the current crop. I will really miss him and remember him always.

My deepest sympathy. Mr. Merion was more than a friend, I considered him family. Always greeted with a warm welcome and a hug over the counter, “The Hut” was a regular stop for me. Both my girls worked there as did so many GV kids. Mr. Merion instilled a strong work ethic, taught them how to deal with customers, be accountable for handling the cash register while putting a little money in their pockets! He was great, great man, honest, humble and steadfast. I consider it a privilege to have had him in my life and will miss him forever. Rest In Peace my friend.

John was a unique guy. Always pleasant and kind. I knew him through the Produce Hut. Was kind enough to leave all old food for Lola my son’s pig. Never knew he was a Mason. Very cool. God bless his soul and my condolences to the family.

My heart is broken for your family. John was so good to my daughter Alex who worked at the Hut from 14 years old till she went to college. He brightened my day every time I stopped by, which was several times a week as I did most of my shopping there. It was like visiting family and a great loss to our community. I am glad he is no longer suffering and with God who was such an important part of his life. Love and prayers Trish Zecca

Mr. Merion was a dear man who I was miss greatly! I enjoyed seeing him at his store and he was always so kind. I especially appreciated his kindness when I was going thru my divorce with 3 kids at home and he told me to take whatever I needed and pay him later. I loved shopping at The Produce Hut and loved talking with him. We are all blessed to have known such a wonderful man!

We lived "down the lane" from the Merions on Mattson Rd and "Pee Wee" (John)was one of the good guys that use to play softball with about 18 other young men. His parents were the kindest people and cared about all the neighbors and their kids. The apple didn't fall far from the tree from Mr. & Mrs. Merion to Pee Wee. So many happy memories were made by he and his family. I am so sorry for your loss.
