Obituary of Carol A. Gallagher

Carol Gallagher, age 76, passed away Friday, May 17, 2019 surrounded by her loving family in her home in Boothwyn, PA where she resided the last 50 years. She was born in Chester, PA to the late Frank and Kathryn (Dulin) Blythe and was a graduate of Chester High School. In addition to her parents she was also predeceased by her stepfather, Frank Ehrentraut of Brookhaven, PA and her beloved canine companion of 17 years, Spirit. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Joseph Gallagher, son, Mark Gallagher (Donna), grandchildren, Mark and Meghan Gallagher, and daughter, Kelly (Gallagher) Bateman (Michael). She worked at Watkins Motors and served as a volunteer with Tel-Med for Riddle Hospital in Media, PA. A devoted homemaker and dedicated Mom, her ultimate measure of success for her children was for them to be genuinely happy. Carol was committed to her family and friends and always did special things for them. She hosted countless holidays and special occasions, all made memorable thanks to her remarkable attention to detail, loving care, and artistic flair. An accomplished seamstress who lovingly sewed many award-winning Halloween costumes among many other special items and keepsakes for loved ones, she also enjoyed crafting, especially one-of-a-kind greeting cards, as well as refinishing antique furniture. She was a history buff with a special interest in the Civil War period, an avid reader, music lover and cinephile. She studied metaphysics and possessed a deep knowledge and passion for astrology, numerology and all things celestial and spiritual. She was known for her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor, gift of storytelling, and her lifelong dedication to the art of letter writing. She had a deep appreciation and respect for nature and especially enjoyed the Brandywine Valley area in autumn. Her favorite spots were Brandywine Battlefield, Lenape, PA, and Arden, DE. She took great pleasure in life's simple joys such as a good cup of coffee enjoyed during a leisurely ride in the countryside while listening to her favorite music. Above all she bestowed genuine kindness to everyone she encountered and conveyed compassion to those who needed it most. She was a friend to all animals, welcoming a wonderful menagerie of pets into her home and heart as well as assisting any creature in need. She made lifelong friends with whomever she met. She endeavored to make the world a better, more beautiful and kinder place and that she did. She led by wonderful example, was especially well-loved and will be dearly missed. Services will be private. Given her illness she was not a candidate for organ donation as had always been her wish. In lieu of flowers please instead consider a memorial contribution to The Gift of Life or one of the following organizations: Brandywine Conservancy, Save the Bees, or City of Elderly Love Rescue. An act of kindness done in her memory would be equally welcome and appreciated.
