Obituary of Ronald N. Brown

Ronald N. Brown, age 71 of Wilmington, DE, died peacefully at home on April 11, 2019, after a 7-month battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas & Catherine Brown, and his brother Donald. Ron cherished his wife of 50 years, Patricia (née Jones). Dad dearly loved his children, Catherine "Kelly", Russell (Sharon), and Randall (Ashley). "Biggie Pop" adored his grandchildren Rose, Lydia, Hope, Sophia, and Ransom. He also will be missed by his sister Alane (Charles), his cousin John, and his cousin Brenda (Ed), along with many other extended family members. Dr. Brown was a graduate of Chichester High School and Houghton College. A lifelong educator, he was an adjunct professor at Wilmington University, an administrator, teacher, and coach in Colonial School District, Wilmington Christian School, Brandywine School District, Faith Academy (Philippines), and Rushford Central School (upstate NY). Throughout retirement, he continued to teach seminary in Argentina, Chile, Ukraine, Perú, and other countries. Ron was active in church ministry, in recent years at Brandywine Valley Baptist Church and for many years at Bethel Baptist Church. He was an avid sports fan, a formidable opponent at the softball plate, a fierce competitor on the basketball court (and pretty much everywhere else), familiar with the rough on many a golf course, and a faithful presence on the sideline of all his children and grandchildren's sports. Ron was also a Harley Davidson enthusiast and member of the Christian Motorcycle Association. A memorial service for Ron will be held at Bethel Baptist Church, 1217 Wilson Road, Wilmington, DE, on Sunday, April 14, at 4 PM, with visitation beginning at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, we suggest donations made to SALT Leadership (http://saltleadership.info/donate/).
