Obituary of Frederick E. Welte

Frederick E. Welte, age 94, of Glen Mills, PA passed away peacefully on November 16, 2018 at his home in the Maris Grove community. Raised in Lansdowne, PA to the late Frederick and Florence Waters Welte, Fred has resided at Maris Grove since 2009. He previously was a 50 year resident of Wallingford, PA. Fred served in both the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean conflict. He graduated from Lansdowne High School in 1942, University of Pennsylvania Wharton School in 1947 with a degree in Business and University of Pennsylvania in 1951 with a Masters in Education. Fred became the first Business Manager for the Nether Providence School District and oversaw the merger between Swarthmore and Wallingford School Districts. He worked in this position from 1961-1987 when he retired. Fred was an accomplished sportsman and often was found on the tennis court or at one of his children's sporting events. He had a great sense of humor, loved jazz music and secretly wanted to be a journalist. He was an active and dedicated member of the Wallingford Presbyterian Church where he also served as Deacon. Fred is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jean Miller Welte, 9 children, Paula Welte of Boston, MA, Barbara (Greg Simon) Welte of Sedona, AZ , Linda (Thomas) Piotrowski of Chadds Ford, PA, Kim Welte of Brookhaven, PA, Frederick E. (John) Welte Jr. Of Downingtown, PA, Nancy Jo Welte Sarasota, FL, Steven (Dawn) Welte of Longwood, PA, Jeffrey (Jose) Welte of Orlando, FL and James Welte of Media, PA, 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018, 9-10AM followed by a Funeral Service at 10AM at the Wallingford Presbyterian Church, 110 E. Brookhaven Rd., Wallingford, PA. Interment, Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, PA. In lieu of flowers, donation's in Fred's memory may be made to either the Maris Grove Resident Care Fund, 200 Maris Grove Way, Glen Mills, PA 19342 or Willowtree Hospice, 616 E. Cypress St., Kennett Sq., PA 19348.
