Obituary of Roman Sobczynski
Roman Sobczynski, age 93, of Downingtown, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2016. Roman was born in Poland, was an 18 month WWII Siberian labor camp survivor. Following liberation he served as a seaman and diver in the Polish Navy under British command. When the war ended, he worked as a coal miner before coming to the United States in 1954. He then became a steel worker for Coatesville Lukens Steel and upon retirement in 1985, became a landscape entrepreneur. He is predeceased by his wife, Dyoniza (Kijak), daughter, Elizabeth Brinton of Parkesburg, and brother, Zdzieszek Gawronik of Poland. Survived by daughters, Donna (James) Aylsworth of Coatesville and Basia Manniso of Oxford, sister, Regina Lukaszewska, of Poland, grandchildren Stefanie (Tim) Murray of Boothwyn and Jason (Jennifer) Brinton of Atglen, three great grandchildren, Taylor Brinton, Timmy and Violet Murray. He is also survived by his long time companion, Janet Wait of Downingtown, her four children, their spouses and their eight children who also fondly considered him as their Dzia-dzia. His visitation will be held on Monday, April 4, 2016 from 1-2PM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 104 South Village Avenue, Exton, PA. Memorial Services will follow at 2:00PM. Burial will take place after the services in the church cemetery.
