Obituary of Rose Marie Kambies

Rose Marie Kambies, age 93, peacefully passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2017 with her family by her side. Born in Luzerne, PA, Marie was the daughter of Stephen Peard, Jr. and Rose Marie Kusek. Marie adored her mother who encouraged her enjoyment of singing at a young age. When Marie's mother passed away in 1936 she and her siblings were raised by her father and grandmother. She graduated from Luzerne High School in 1942. After high school she moved to Bloomfield, NJ to live with friends and worked for Schering Plough Corp. as a laboratory assistant. In 1949 Marie married, moved to Riverdale, MD and worked for Maryland Telephone to help put her husband through college. In 1955 she settled in Ogden Park, PA and lived there for over 50 years. She devoted most of the years in her long life to her church, her children and her grandchildren whom she dearly loved. Rest easy Mom-Mom, you will always be loved and cherished. Marie was a proud and devoted charter member of St. Timothy's Lutheran Church in Aston, PA since 1961. She enjoyed many years of fellowship in church activities as a Sunday School Teacher, volunteer, member of the choir and the Young at Heart Group. A quiet spirit and loving mother and "Mom-Mom", she loved spending time with her family and friends. Marie enjoyed reading, playing cards, "collecting things" and watching the Phillies games. She also enjoyed traveling back to her home town to visit her family. Marie will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in law, Karen and Mike McGurk of Wilmington, DE, her son and daughter-in-law, John and Ginny Kambies of Prospect Park, PA, her 5 grandchildren, Michael McGurk (Lana), Jacqueline Chiaravalloti (Joe), Robert Kambies, Christine Kambies, and Colleen Risley (Mike). She became a great-grandmother to Joey in December 2016. Marie was preceded in death by her brothers George in 2007 and Jim Peard in 2015 and her sister Clara Fetch, whom she was very close to, in 2014. On behalf of Rose Marie, her family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Kentmere Nursing Care Center for the compassionate care provided to their mother. Marie was a prior resident at Lutheran Knolls in Boothwyn, PA and Ingleside Retirement Apartments and Assisted Living in Wilmington, DE. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 11:00AM at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, 535 Lamp Post Lane (corner of Lamp Post Lane and Pennell Road), Aston, PA where friends may call from 10:00-11:00AM. Burial will be held privately with her parents and grandparents at Evergreen Cemetery, Shavertown, Luzerne County, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marie's memory may be sent to St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, 535 Lamp Post Lane, Aston, PA 19014-2696.
