Obituary of Jeanne V Smitheman
Jeanne V. Smitheman, 59, of Glen Mills died suddenly Tuesday, March 1, 2016 surrounded by family and friends.
Born April 13, 1956 in West Chester, she was the daughter of Louise and the late George Velde Jr. Jeanne graduated from IUP in 1978 and shortly thereafter married her loving husband of 35 years, Michael T. Smitheman. She was a member of Brandywine Baptist Church.
Jeanne was the eldest of three daughters and from an early age, she was the epitome of a mother. An avid learner, she taught herself to sew and provided many dresses, doll clothes, and aprons for her family. Jeanne nurtured souls by cooking favorite meals, desserts, and organized many holidays and special events. She was the mother to three and the Oma to six grandchildren, whom she cared for since birth. Throughout the years, she provided a loving environment for other children, including nieces, nephews, and family friends. Everyone could count on Jeanne to be present however and whenever needed.
She is predeceased by her father George, Aunts and uncles Jennie and Calvin Hull, Marian and George Hare. Jeanne is survived by her husband, Mike, mother Louise, children, Jared (Kim) Smitheman, Rachel (Jasper) McLaughlin, and Erin Smitheman, six grandchildren, Faye, Lucy, Noah, Emmy, Eli, and Hayley also two sisters, Linda (Joe) Hadfield and MaryAnne (Tom) Stout. She was a daughter in law to Lillian and the late Charles Smitheman and a sister in law to Linda (Rob) Wood, Deborah Smitheman, and Edward (Kim) Smitheman. She is remembered with love by many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Friends for nearly fifty years, she will be remembered fondly by Stephanie Schmidt and Sue Schied.
The service will be held on Monday, March 7, 2016 at Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Road, Garnet Valley, PA. The viewing hours are 9 to 11 AM with the service following. She will be buried at Birmingham Cemetery immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations to be made in her name to CHOP.edu or SamaritansPurse.org.
