Obituary of Vito J. D'Amore

Vito J. D'Amore, 87, of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2024. Born and raised in South Philadelphia to Lorenzo J. and Lucia Marchegiani D'Amore, Vito spent the past 20 years residing at Fox Hill Farms in Glen Mills, where he built lasting friendships and memories.

A proud veteran, Vito served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps. After his service, he worked for many years at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, in Shop 71 as a painter then ultimately Shop Foreman. Vito's teams were deployed aboard every ship in the Navy Yard with a focus on the Carriers. During Operation Desert Storm he led a Tiger Team in the Red Sea to refurbish the flight deck on the USS John F Kennedy CV67. Vito received numbers of commendations and honors during his 40+ year career; he could have been elected as the Shipyard Mayor as everyone that knew him, had kind words.

Vito was a man of many passions. He was an avid sports fan, cheering eagerly for the Phillies, Eagles and Flyers. He found great joy to finally see the Eagles win the Super Bowl. He enjoyed hunting trips to Tioga and Potter Counties in Pennsylvania and was a proud member of the NRA and Atglen Sportsman's Club. He loved all animals and enjoyed caring for pets and nature's wildlife. His keen interest in World War II history was a defining aspect of his life, earning him a reputation as a knowledgeable WWII history buff.

Above all, Vito cherished his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Rosemarie DiFabrizio D'Amore; his three loving daughters, Denise (Ernest) Keen, Marie Antoinette D'Amore, and Debra (Robert) Cenci; his sister, Anna Bannar; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Leda McDevitt.

A viewing will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, from 9:15 AM to 10:45 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Glen Mills, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery 1600 Sproul Road, Springfield, PA .
