Obituary of Irone Edmund Stevenson Jr
Irone Edmund Stevenson Jr., age 94, of Glen Mills, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on December 16th at his residence at Maris Grove. Born in Linthicum, MD, Ed resided in the Maris Grove Community for the past 8 years after previously residing in Wilmington, DE for 53 years.
After serving his country in the United States Army, he graduated from the University of Maryland and went on to earn his Ph. D. from the University of Pennsylvania, with postdoctoral work at Yale University. He was employed for 29 years at Dupont as a Research Biochemist. His lifelong love of agriculture led to Ed becoming a Master Gardener and donating his time to the Chatham Civic Association, helping to beautify his neighborhood's landscaping. After his retirement in 1992, Ed became a volunteer at Longwood Gardens, Winterthur, and Mt. Cuba, working in the greenhouses and as a docent. He was devoted to his Catholic faith as a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Wilmington, DE. Special thanks to Erika Rojas and Kevin Roque for their loyal assistance in caring for Ed.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Margarita, two sons, David (Noreen) and Richard (Achée), grandsons Neil and Grant, and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his sisters Ellen Hughes and Janet Taylor.
