Obituary of Robert J. Hughes

Robert J. "Bobby" Hughes, age 44, of Garnet Valley, PA, passed away unexpectedly on December 8, 2024, at Riddle Memorial Hospital. Born in Scranton, PA, Bobby was a lifelong resident of Marcus Hook before moving to Garnet Valley in 2023. He loved New English Style Pizza, the Phillies and the Eagles, riding his Harley, country music and going to the beach.

Bobby was a graduate of Chichester High School, Class of 1998, and continued his education at the Delaware County Community College Police Academy. His professional life was dedicated to serving his hometown where he worked as the Code Enforcement Officer and Highway Foreman for Marcus Hook. Bob previously served as a Pennsylvania State Constable before moving from his precinct to Bethel.

A man of service, Bobby was a passionate volunteer firefighter with the Marcus Hook Trainer Fire Department, where he held the roles of Vice President and assistant engineer. He also gave his time as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Bethel BSA Troop 191 and volunteered with Wallingford BSA Troop 2019.

Bobby's love for his community and family was evident in all he did. His greatest work was in the lives that he touched, taking extra time to mentor and love anyone who wanted or needed it. He was especially proud of his niece, Alexis Blair; Tim (Shawna) Lantzer, Slayde Turner and Joey (Jen) Smith, who were just a few among many that held a special place in his heart.

Above all, Bobby will be remembered as a devoted husband and a loving father to his four children. His commitment to his family and his community was unparalleled, leaving a legacy of kindness and dedication that will not be forgotten.

Bobby is preceded in death by his father, Patrick H. Hughes, father-in-law Boyd L. Hudson and his beloved dog, Harley. He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Jillian Hudson Hughes; his cherished children, Jackson Robert, McKinley Grace, Liam Boyd, and Benjamin Burke Hughes; his mother, Ruth D. Hughes; siblings, Ruthie Hughes, Lisa (Luigi) Marraffino, Brian (Jennifer) Hughes, and his identical twin brother, Jason (Beth) Hughes; his mother-in-law, Rene Burke Hudson; best friend Michael (Lynn) Moore; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends.

A visitation will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024, from 6:00–8:00 PM at Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Road, Garnet Valley, PA. An additional visitation will take place on Tuesday, December 17, from 10:00–11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private.
