Obituary of John J. Fare Jr.
John Joseph Fare, Jr., age 77, of Wildwood Crest, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at Cooper University Hospital Cape Regional on November 23rd. John was born in Philadelphia in 1947 to John and Anna Fare.
John graduated from Darby Colwyn High School, where he met and fell in love with his wife of 56 years, Edna. He was drafted into the Army in 1966, and upon his discharge, married Edna in 1968.
A true patriot, John proudly served in the Army, and his dedication to his country was evident throughout his life. He carried his sense of duty and honor into his career and personal life, instilling these values in his children and grandchildren.
John enjoyed living in Wildwood Crest full-time for the past seven years, after residing in North Wilmington, DE, and Boothwyn, PA. Following in his father's footsteps, John had a remarkable 45-year aviation career, serving as an airline captain for Altair and American International Airways before transitioning to a Chief Pilot role in corporate aviation. During his time in corporate aviation, John worked for some of the nation's leading industries, with his happiest days spent at PRA and Stone Aviation. John was especially proud to see his son continue the family legacy, and the highlight of his aviation career was having the privilege to work alongside and fly with both his father and his son, representing three generations in aviation.
Another career highlight for John came later in life when he proudly became a Wildwood Boardwalk Tram Car Driver.
John traveled the world and loved every minute of it, but his favorite place was Wildwood Crest, surrounded by family and friends. His "Jersey Shore" neighbors always felt safe and secure knowing John was protecting everyone's parking spots during the height of the summer season. As the unofficial mayor of the street, John ensured all law and order prevailed within his earshot and eyesight. He also loved taking family and friends on his boat, which he named Top Gun, piloting at lightning speeds and never missing an opportunity to jump a good wake to take his boat airborne. As memorable as the boat rides were, so were the cleaning rituals that followed each adventure. John's happiest days were spent at the Jersey Shore, and his favorite place to eat with family and friends was the Lobster House in Cape May.
John was a generous man who lived life to the fullest. His greatest accomplishment was his family, and he was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren. His most cherished title was "Pop Pop," and he adored his five grandchildren, never missing a sports event, birthday, or graduation. He also never missed a phone call with them, which always ended with "I love you." He also loved animals and had a special bond with his beloved and devoted poodle, Gracie.
John is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Edna St. Clair; his children, Jeannine Raymond and John (Lori) Fare III; his five grandchildren, Joseph, Luke, Avery, Ryann, and Hailey; his sister, Joanne Sorbello; brothers, James and Charles Fare; and many cherished nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Gracie. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Fare, and his sisters, Tina Love, Andrea Standish, and Audrey Sadlowsi.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, November 30th, from 8:30-10:45 AM at St. John Fisher Church, 4225 Chichester Ave., Boothwyn, PA, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM. Interment will remain private. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to Delco Dawgs (delco-dawgs)
