Obituary of David L. Hinzman
David Hinzman, aged 88, passed away peacefully on November 21st at Foulk Living in Wilmington, DE. David was born in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania to parents David Baxter Hinzman and Mary Virginia Shumm. David left high school at the age of 16 to financially support his mother and sister, Joyce. Despite not graduating high school, David made a phenomenal life for himself. At the age of 18, he left home to join the Navy and serve his country. It was there, in Washington DC, that he met the love of his life Ann, where she was working for the FBI. They got married shortly thereafter, and celebrated 64 years of devotion to one another. Eventually, they settled in Wilmington Delaware, where they raised their two children, David Hinzman and Vicki Price. David supported his family by owning and running a gas station for more than 36 years. He found great meaning in serving his community, and was gifted at bringing joy to those around him. Having a proclivity for art, he always hand painted the windows at the station for every occasion. He brought people together by hosting parties every Christmas Eve. Thor, his dog, was a daily staple at the station. There are many testimonies to his generosity and kindness during his time there. In his free time, David did woodworking, and gifted his loved ones with his many creations. He also enjoyed fishing or relaxing on the beach with his friends and family at their shore home in Ocean City, NJ. In his later years, he enjoyed sitting on the front porch and chatting with neighbors as they walked by. Everywhere David went he knew somebody who spoke kindly of him. He found joy in spending time with his granddaughters, Carlie Price and Paige Gartland, and his many grand-dogs. After his wife passed away in 2021,he was lucky enough to find love again with Pat Drill, who brought him joy in his final days. David is survived by his daughter, Vicki, his son in law, Barry Price, his two granddaughters, Carlie and Paige, his step-granddaughter Kimberly Bushweller, and his great grandchildren, Emma, Caraline and William Lawson and JP Gartland. His humor, kindness and generosity will be missed by his family, his caretakers at Foulk Living, and his many close friends.
