Obituary of George H. Lober Jr.

George H. Lober, Jr, 93, of Brandywine Hundred, passed away peacefully in his sleep November 7, 2024. He was born in Linwood, Pa to George H. Sr and Isabel (Hickman) Lober. He grew up in the Chichester area. After graduating from Chichester High school in 1949 George went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force eventually being deployed to Japan serving at the 6110th USAF Hospital giving support to all branches of the military during the Korean War. Upon his discharge he married the love of his life, Elaine (Gray) Lober and they celebrated 70 years of marriage this past July.

George had a career first with Phoenix Steel as a Systems Analyst for 15 years, then moved on to working for Lukens Steel as the Systems Information Officer until his retirement in 1994. After retiring he did consulting work in his field while becoming a weekly volunteer at A.I. Dupont Hospital for Children. He first volunteered in Child Life, nurturing the very young children, then in Kinfolk rehabbing, cleaning and installing laptop computers in patient's rooms so they could keep abreast of their school work and friends while receiving inpatient treatment. George was a former member of Linwood United Methodist Church where he and his wife participated in various ministries, particularly high school Youth Ministries. He was always available when volunteers were needed at church, their "right-hand man" .

At the time of his passing he was a member of Chichester Wesleyan Church. George loved sports, playing basketball and softball during his formative years, loved skiing and traveling. He always planned cross country camping trips with his wife and children during time off from work. He loved tinkering around the house and was very handy.

George was devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His happiest moments were spent with his immediate and extended family as well as cherished friends. His smile and hugs were his signature. He had an uplifting and cheerful spirit and was loved by all who met him.

George is survived by his wife, Elaine Lober; and his children, George H. III (Dianne), Wendy Lober-Giblin, David (Kim); grandchildren, Kristen Lober, Bailey Lober, Jacob Lober, Evan Lober (Mandy), Brett Giblin, Mark Giblin (Michelle); great-grandchildren, Wesley, Wyatt and Walt Giblin, Landon and Leif Lober, known as pop-pop or pop by them, brother Richard Lober (Dale); Step-sister Dot Allen (Clint) of Colorado.
