Obituary of Joan T. Filippone
Joan T. Filippone, 81, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2024, in the presence of her daughters. She enjoyed her final days in the loving company of family, wonderful neighbors and friends, both near and far.
A 48-year resident of Concord Township, she also resided in Wilmington, DE for a time, and grew up in Folcroft, PA, where she made lasting memories with her close childhood friends.
Joan was an accomplished stained glass artist, and at one time was an avid golfer at Penn Oaks Country Club. She also enjoyed league bowling. She loved to read, do word search, watch hummingbirds and puzzle. Above all else, her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family, her best friend of 76 years Betty Lou Schwab, and their group of "goddesses" (grade school friends who remained close throughout their lives), and dear friend Arlene Fry. While her favorite job was being a Grammy to both granddaughters and grand dogs, Joan was a bookkeeper professionally, working most notably in the office at Genuardi's until her retirement, and in the early years for Medford Meats, where she met her husband.
She is survived by her daughters Donna O'Dell Hoke (Keith), and Lisa Wright (Christopher), and granddaughters Sophie and Celia Wright. She is preceded in death by her husband Gabriel Filippone Jr, her son Michael Filippone, parents Ulrich A. Lyons and Virginia S Lyons (nee Ruby), and brother Ulrich A. Lyons Jr.
The family wishes to extend gratitude to the palliative care nurses at Riddle Hospital, and especially to the angels-on-earth at Keystone House Hospice. In loving memory of Joan, donations in her honor can be made to Keystone House of Wyndmoor, PA. Joan lived her life with quiet strength, courage and devotion. Per her wishes, a private celebration of life will be planned with close family and friends in the coming weeks. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.paganofuneralhome.com.
