Obituary of William M. DiRusso
William M. DiRusso, age 94, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2024. Born and raised in Linwood, PA, William was a longtime Wilmington resident, having previously lived in Aston and Bethel, PA, and Claymont, DE. He graduated from Eddystone High School in the Class of 1948 and went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
William worked for 35 years as an electrician at Delmarva Power, retiring in 1990. He was a proud member of the Delmarva Power Sports Association, the NRA, and Delaware County Field and Stream, where he enjoyed target shooting. A gifted artist, he found joy in oil painting and woodcarving, which he practiced with the Aston Senior Center Wood Carvers. William also had a lifelong passion for opera and wine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gabriel and Fortunata "Maria" Zonghetti DiRusso; his first wife, Dorothy DiRusso, who passed in 2018; his second wife, Ruth DiRusso, who passed in 1993; his third wife, Madeline DiRusso, who passed in 2022; and three siblings, Laura Streck, Ralph DiRusso, and Helen Pontecorvo.
William is survived by his three children, Mary Beth (Jack) McCreary, William DiRusso Jr., and Mark (Laurie) DiRusso; nine grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Nicole, Becky, Gabriele, Zachary, Caiden, Teagan, and William III; and three great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Cameron, and Lucy.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, November 5th, 2024 from 9:15–10:15 AM at Immaculate Conception of Lourdes Catholic Church, 21 W. 8th Street, Marcus Hook, PA, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. Interment will be at Lawn Croft Cemetery in Linwood, PA.
