Obituary of Samuel M. Sheid

Samuel "Sam" M. Sheid, age 76, of Upper Chichester, PA, passed away peacefully at home on October 2, 2024. Born in Dover, DE, Sam was a lifelong resident of Upper Chichester. He dedicated 46 years to working on the assembly line at Esschem before retiring in 2009. A proud 1966 graduate of Chichester High School, Sam remained deeply committed to his community and faith throughout his life.

Sam was a devoted member of St. John Fisher Catholic Church and, at just 16 years old, he joined the Ogden Fire Company, where he served as a volunteer firefighter for 40 years. He was also the treasurer for his union, Boilermakers Local 88. In his youth, Sam achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, demonstrating his lifelong commitment to service. An avid fan of all Philadelphia sports teams, Sam cherished collecting autographed memorabilia. Above all, he found joy in giving back to his community and helping others.

Sam is preceded in death by his father, Samuel Sheid, and his beloved aunt who raised him, Mary Virginia Liberato. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Mary E. (Racine) Sheid; his daughter, Elizabeth Filter, and her husband, Arron; two granddaughters, Felicia (Matt) Blatt and Shayla (Miles Rios) Myers; and four great-grandchildren, Anthony, Skylar, Zoe, and Kaleesi.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd., Garnet Valley, PA, followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sam's memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) or Ennoble Care Hospice.
