To the Lauginiger family,
I am so sorry for your loss. "Mr. L" was my teacher at Sharon Hill/Academy Park (1979-1983) for a number of science classes, and had a profound impact on my views of science. We went on the best fossil field trips (often with Gene Hartstein), something that I still participate in to this day. I even chaperoned on a few of his trips years after I graduated. I currently work as a cancer biology researcher at the Univ of Penn. Mr. L & I crossed paths quite a few times in the course of every day life, as I too live in north Wilmington. He will be missed by many. He was always excited to teach, to expose students to the wonders of evolution, dinosaurs, & fossils - as well as the ''shock & dismay' of the 'Egg Project'.

My condolences to Mr. Lauginiger's family. Rest in Peace Mr. Lauginiger. You were one of the most amazing teachers that had a huge impact on my life. My life's path was not clear in High School until I met you and took your class. Yoour passion for sciene and biology was infectious and led me to discover how much I really loved science, biology and medicine. I am the successful man I am today because of your influence when I was aa lost teenager in High School.
I will always remember you.

It truly hurt my heart when I heard of the passing, of a Southeast Delco legend, Mr. Lauginiger. The most easy-going teacher I've ever had. Once I had Ed's class as an underclassmen, I knew I wanted to take his Paleontology course the following year! I had a lot of respect for Ed as did other students who had him. It's a shame not everyone had the pleasure of being taught by Mr. Lauginiger. I send my condolences to the family and friends and you'll be in my prayers. I'm sure Mr. Lauginiger is walking with the dinosaurs and getting lost in his favorite toys lol.
Sincerely,
Vinnie Ferraccio C/O 2008

Aaron & Jane, I'm so sorry for your loss. Ed was my favorite brother in law! I had not stayed in touch with him in the last few years. Since Ed was about 15 years older than me, growing up Ed took me fossil hunting whenever he was in town. We also had such fun on the family trips we used to take like to Mexico. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Love Aunt Liz, Uncle Tony and Tyler

This really breaks my hurt. Mr. Lauginiger was an overall good dude! One of my favorite science teachers. He did an awesome job with applying Science to real world applications and made it fun. He never forgot that it was about teaching the students and Biology was just his vehicle to that end. I remember the baby project with the eggs, bags of flour and diaries. Only Mr. Lauginiger could make a project like that work. He even did some dissection, which I think is a lost art. This is real learning to me! I remember he was an avid toy collector. His family should know that he was of my favorite teachers. I see that one of my friends Cathy posted to this site. Cathy- Mr. Lauginiger was everything that you said in your post and then some.

His passion for science and teaching demonstrate what a wonderful person he was....even if not everyone saw it that way at the time! This obituary doesn't include all the awesome tales he had of his experiences and the world will be lacking and this saddens me. Rest Easy.

Mr. L was one of my HS teachers at Academy Park. For science (biology); I remember those flour babies we had to carry around, lol. I edited this because I just remembered one time I was getting into a disagreement with a classmate in the hallway outside of his class. He came out and had a chat with me. Reminding me that I am a good student and to not let petty things distract me. Little things like that make a difference. Had a cool class and he was a cool guy. May he RIP and deepest condolences to all family and friends.

It was a privilege to be a student of Mr. Lauginiger's; he was always dedicated to his students' learning and passionate about teaching. Even I, an unstudious pupil, well remember his unique personality, his guinea pigs, and his cool definition of Life, which was something like this: "Life is a dynamically stable, complex aggregate of macromolecules capable of maintenance of being, assimilation of sustenance, and reproduction of self." I know he inspired many students to a love of biology, and into medical careers. What a great legacy he leaves, in that alone!
Thanks to you, and
