There are many people that we meet in our lives, but only a few will make a lasting impression on our minds and hearts. These people will always listen and talk to you. They will care about your happiness and well being. They will like you for who you are, and will support you at all times. It is these rare people we will think of after they're gone, and who will always remain important to us a true friend. Rest in peace dear friend.

When I think of my Uncle Clyde, the first thing that comes to mind is the twinkle in his eye.
I didn’t know my Uncle Clyde when I was little because he was in the service. When we’d go to Wilmington, though, I often went to his room, and I remember a picture of him in his uniform.
Clyde and his two sisters were all accomplished pianists. He was joyful when he played the piano—he loved it! My mom said Clyde was the best at Jazz, and I think she was right.
He always seemed to be thinking, not of what he would say next but about what was being discussed. Clyde had a great “take” on things. When he commented, I listened.
Clyde was one of the most intelligent people I’ve known, like his dad and my brother, Richard.
In addition to his great, dry sense of humor, Clyde had a great laugh. It seemed to bubble up from far within.
Clyde was kind. When we played duets on the piano, I was downright awful. However, rather than rolling his eyes, he cheerfully kept playing. Then, he might find a book that was a bit less ambitious.
For me, ClydeandLouise was a compound word. ❤️

My family, Bill and Doris and Tim, Jenny and Kelly Hourihan all got to know Clyde and the Tarbuttons while we all lived in Manila, Philippines. Then we all ended up living in Delaware County when we returned home. What I remember most about Clyde was how musically talented he was — he was a person who could play anything by ear on the piano and had such a spirit of fun and joy as he played. I also remember being impressed with how much my Mom and Dad admired him. They always talked about how smart Clyde was and we all loved his dry and understated sense of humor. Recently, I learned that he enjoyed a friendship with my grandmother Eleanor- a strong willed person many found difficult— so that impressed me because his genuine generosity and humanity showed through in that friendship with her. This witty, smart and generous person, Clyde, will be missed and was a good friend. With affection and condolences to Kathy and Louise, Jenny

Louise and Kathy,
I am so sorry for your loss. Some of my favorite memories of Bittersweet Drive is your home and Clyde's amazing playing on the piano, his kind and gentle manner and sense of humor. All three of you, Libby the dachshund and the cool Karmin Gia, had a great impact on my life.

Louise,
I am so sorry for your loss. Clyde was a wonderful guy and I know you will miss him. I remember him coming in to the clinic to help you with projects you were working on to better serve the patients. You always had some good idea cooking and Clyde was always ready to help. He always had a smile, a thoughtful comment, and a witty retort. Grace informed me of his passing. She has become my information source. I remember the days we worked together. I respected the work you did and I valued our relationship. I was so proud of the work we did in those years and you were a huge reason it was so good. God Bless You.

Louise and Kathy and Tyler I am so sorry for your loss.
I think my favorite memories of Clyde are of his infectious sense of humor. He loved picking on my mom. She laughed, as always, at his jokes. I spent lots of time with Clyde and the Kauffman family as I was growing up and I loved his laughter. He also took time to help me learn especially about nature. He always looked so serious but he was down to earth and fun. May he rest in peace after his long struggle with illness. Prayers for comfort.
Love,
Cousin Judy Ehrhart Sparks
