Obituary of Jana L. Skolnicki

Jana L. Skolnicki, age 69 of Claymont, DE passed away on April 30, 2024 at home. Born in Chester and raised in Brookhaven, PA, Jana resided for the past 37 years in Claymont, DE, previously residing in Glenolden, PA. She graduated from Sun Valley High School, Class of 1972 and then matriculated at Kutztown University in their School of Fine Arts. Like most starving artists, she realized the need for steady employment and completed her associates degree in nursing at Deltech Community College. As a Registered Nurse at Crozer Chester Medical Center, Jana worked in the open heart unit (CVU) for 20 years. She enjoyed taking care of her cats, visiting antique car shows, and was an avid Phillies fan. She detested football but attended every high school and college game to play the flute in the marching band. Since retirement, she returned to her love of painting in the Brandywine School tradition. She participated in shows at the Chadds Ford Gallery, the Wilmington Art Loop, Blue Hen Gallery in New Castle, Stonegates, Soda House at Hagley Museum, Wilmington Library, and as a student of Karl Kuerner's at West Chester University. Jana is preceded in death by her parents, John and Rebecca Thompson Skolnicki, her brother, Johnny Skolnicki, and her nephew, David Skolnicki. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Andy Ednie plus cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jana was a volunteer at Forgotten Cats and a lifetime member of the Delaware Ornithological Society. Funeral service will be Saturday, May 18 th at 2:00 pm, visitation from 1:30 pm. Donations in her memory may be made to Forgotten Cats, 4023 Kennett Pike, Suite 422, Greenville, DE 19807.
