Obituary of Joseph F. Barrett Sr.

Joseph "Joe" F. Barrett Sr., age 95 of Glen Mills, PA passed away peacefully on April 20, 2024 at Rose Court in the Maris Grove Senior Living Community in Glen Mills, PA. Born and raised in southwest Philadelphia, Joe resided at Maris Grove for the past 7 years, and was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. He previously resided in nearby Fox Hill Farms, Orlando FL, and Springfield PA, as well as Frederick MD and Sewell NJ.

Joe graduated from Bartram High School, Class of 1947. For 10 years, he commuted from his home in NJ, to work at GE in Philadelphia while he earned his BS degree in engineering at Drexel University Night School. He assisted with the Boy Scouts when his sons were scouts at St. Kevin Parish. An electrical engineer, Joe was a longtime employee of Westinghouse and retired while working in Orlando. In Florida, Joe enjoyed boating, swimming in the pool and participating in numerous community activities. Most of all, he enjoyed the time he spent with his family, and was beloved for his upbeat personality, gentle kindness, and winning sense of humor.

In addition to his parents, Martin and Lillian Krebs Barrett, Joe is preceded in death by his son, Martin J. Barrett, three siblings, Albert Barrett, Martin Barrett Jr. and Mary Goff. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Gosner Barrett, four children, Joseph (Donna) Barrett Jr., Kathleen Brophy, Robert (Yen) Barrett, and Patty Barrett, daughter-in-law, Jeanne Barrett, 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 30th from 9:45-10:45 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 430 Valleybrook Road, Glen Mills, PA, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM.
