Obituary of John I. McCall

John "Jack" I. McCall, age 90, of Milford, DE passed away on November 23, 2023 at his daughter's home in Wilmington, DE. Born to Samuel and Helen McCall in Salem, NJ, he has resided in Wilmington, DE for 2 years, previously from Paulsboro, NJ and Swedesboro, NJ. He worked for DuPont for over 30 years as a sheet metal mechanic. Jack proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. In his younger years, Jack played semi-professional baseball for Paulsboro A.A., he also played organized softball until he was 50 years old, when he led the team in hits. He was very active and enjoyed going fishing, camping, crabbing and playing darts with his family and friends. He has been an Eagles fan for 80 years and was a diehard Phillies fan.

Jack volunteered at Underwood Hospital in NJ for 15 years after retiring from Dupont. He was a member and past president of Paulsboro Sportsman Association. Later in life, Jack spent most of his time researching genealogy and documenting his family history.

Mostly Jack loved spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by 2 siblings, James McCall, and Marianne Simpson and two children, John R. McCall and MaryEllen McCall and his wife of 60 years and the love of his life, Janet (Feo). He is survived by two children; Wendalin Bower, and Ellie (Michael) Donovan, a daughter-in-law, Carmen Superville, four siblings; Joe (Donna) McCall, Alice (Bill) Payne, and five grandchildren, Kevin Yearwood, Jake Helmes, Hannah Helmes, Chloe Helmes and Nikolai Paloney. He loved sharing his knowledge of football, history, and many stories of his brother, who was his best friend. A memorial will be private and held at a later date.
