Obituary of Earl Robert Buchanan

Earl R. Buchanan, age 96, of Concordville, PA, passed away on August 16, 2023 at Riddle Memorial Hospital. He was born in Frackville, PA and raised in Philadelphia and was a longtime resident of Glen Mills for over 50 years. Earl was a proud graduate of Dobbins VoTech and attended Drexel Institute, Quaker City Aeronautics School and Spartan School for multi-engine aircraft and Flight Engineers School. Earl served as a Corporal in the Marine Corps during WWII and the Cold War under Commandant Vandergrift as an orderly at Marine Corps Headquarters in Washington, D.C. He became a Flight Engineer and flew on the Boeing Stratocruiser, DC6's and Constellation aircraft for Slick Airways, Pan American, Seaboard, World and Capitol Airways. Earl then worked for TWA, NorthEast and Delta Airlines as an Aircraft Line Mechanic. His work memories include flying Charles Lindbergh from Paris to New York, flying Hungarian refugees to America in the revolt against Russia, flying the monkeys for the polio vaccine, and military supplies for the Vietnam War. Earl was a member of the Marine Corps League Delaware County Detachment, the Marine Firing Squad and Pied Piper. In addition to his parents, Earl H. and Elizabeth Myrtle James Buchanan, Earl is predeceased by his beloved wife, Romaine E. Ganderton Buchanan who passed in 2014, 2 brothers, Norman and Roy Buchanan. He is survived by his 3 loving daughters, Barbara Buchanan, Jayne (Ted) Steger and Jill Buchanan, 7 grandchildren, Eric Petrucelli, Jason Petrucelli, Andrew (Alexandra) Steger, Emily (Howard) Brown, Ian Zeph, Jack Zeph, and Xander Zeph, 2 great grandchildren, Ella Brown and Theo Steger. A visitation will be held on Friday , August 25, 2023, from 4:00-5:00PM at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Road, Garnet Valley, PA, followed by a Funeral Service at 5:00PM. Interment will be held on Monday, September 25, at 2PM at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, Delaware.
