Obituary of Kenneth I. Horton

Kenneth I. Horton, age 95 of Glen Mills, PA passed away on May 14, 2023, at Maris Grove Retirement Community, having previously lived in Middletown Township for 45 years. He was born to Vaughn H. and Ethel M. DeWalt Horton in Bellevue, OH. He graduated from Bellevue High School, Class of 1946. Following graduation, Ken enlisted in the Army and served his country at the end of WWII. Upon his return home from Japan, Ken attended Duke University. Ken was employed by Lance, Inc. for 35 years, retiring in 1989 as a District Sales Manager. After his career with Lance, Inc. he spent several years recruiting students for Williamson College of the Trades. He was an avid walker and enjoyed singing in various choruses. Ken had a very positive approach to life and took a sincere interest in other people. While at Maris Grove, he was active on numerous committees including Entertainment, Ushering, Resident Care Fund, and the Resident Advisory Council. In addition, he was involved with the Veterans Club, Bee Club, gardening, and going to the gym.

Ken was preceded in death by his first wife of 59 years, Marilyn Jean King Horton, and siblings, Donald Horton, George Horton, and Nondas Horton Powers. He is survived by his wife of over 12 years, Marian May Yergey Erle, his children; Jill (Ken Murray) Swoyer, Holly Newcomer, Jan Kucheruk, and Richard (Donna) Horton, step-children; Linda Biddle and Martin Erle, 11 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023 at 2:30 pm in the chapel at Maris Grove, 200 Maris Grove Way, Glen Mills, PA 19342.
