Obituary of Joseph Smith
Joseph "Peanut" Smith, age 65 of Wilmington, DE passed away on April 11, 2023, at his home in Pierson Farm. Born in Chester, PA and raised in Trainer, PA, Joseph resided for the past 29 years in Wilmington, DE. He worked for Westlake Plastics, in Lenni, PA for over 30 years.
In his free time, he could be found picking winners in horse racing, talking about his fantasy football triumphs, collecting and repairing vintage radios, and tinkering with his model trains. Peanut was a very dedicated father and enjoyed coaching all 3 of his sons’ baseball teams. He was a member of the Marcus Hook Slow-Pitch Softball community and passed down that passion to his sons, who continue to play in Delaware.
Peanut was also a fanatic for his Eagles, Phillies, and Flyers teams and enjoyed watching and attending NASCAR races. He also loved listening to The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, and even with all the new entertainment available, Peanut still watched reruns of The Three Stooges, Hogan’s Heroes, and M*A*S*H.
In retirement, he treasured the time he spent with his granddaughters, Charlie Rose, and Kayla Paige, making the girls a swing set, blowing bubbles, taking Charlie for rides on the riding mower, and refurbishing old toys.
Peanut could always be found with a crowd around him at family parties, with everyone drawn in by his charisma, unbelievable stories, or his willingness to challenge anyone to an arm-wrestling match. His awe-inspiring personality, loyalty, and sense of humor will be remembered and carried on by his friends and family forever.
Joseph is preceded in death by his father, Charles "Lefty" Smith and is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Marguerite Jones Smith; his 3 sons, Brian (Danielle) Smith, Michael (Stephanie) Smith and Eric Smith; Mother, Rose Pro Smith; his 2 brothers, Charles "Chuck" (Marylou) Smith and Thomas "Tommy" (Michelle) Smith; his 2 grandchildren, Charlie Rose, and Kayla Paige. His infectious smile and over the top laughter will live on through all those who were fortunate enough to cross paths with such a one-of-a-kind individual.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023, 10:00-11:30AM at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd., Garnet Valley, PA followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 11:30AM. Interment, Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery, Linwood, PA. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.paganofuneralhome.com
