Obituary of David Michael Palmer

David M. Palmer, age 83, of Media, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at his home in Granite Farms Estates. Born in Toms River, NJ, son of Gerald and Emma (Kraus) Palmer, he spent his formative years attending Girard College, a boarding school for boys in Philadelphia, PA. Prior to moving to Media, he resided at Foxfield in Garnet Valley for 18 years and before this he lived in Wallingford, PA, Milmont Park, PA, and Sea Isle City, NJ. David graduated from Girard College, Class of 1957 and was active in the alumni association where he served as his class representative, and won the Girard College Alumni Award of Merit in 2004. Following school, he joined the Merchant Marine and sailed the globe aboard oil tankers for Sun Ship. Later, he worked for Boeing and then moved to The Westinghouse Marine Division where he served as their East Coast representative. In retirement, David enjoyed work as a docent at the Hagley Museum in Wilmington, DE, where he was able to share his love of history. He was a former member of St. John Fisher Catholic Church. He was an avid reader and car lover including his prized 1961 Corvette and enjoyed walking, nature and spending time at the gym. He also enjoyed time with his family, especially at their beach home in Sea Isle. He treasured his many pet dogs through the years including his beloved Toby. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Parsley who passed in 2022 and his brother, James Palmer. David is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Patricia McCreight Palmer; his daughter, Colleen Palmer Jones (Jay Jones); his son, Gregory Palmer; his five grandchildren, Megan Palmer, Sarah Palmer, Laura Palmer (Brian Dilger), Kassidy Ferrie and Jack Ferrie; his two great grandchildren, Michael and Gabbie and his sister, Geraldine Johnson. A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 23 from 10 to 11 AM at St. John Fisher Church, 4225 Chichester Ave., Boothwyn, PA followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private.
