Obituary of Gilbert W. Smith

Gilbert W. "Gil" Smith, age 82, of Media, PA, died on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at his home. Gil was born and raised in Chester, PA. and was the son of the late John and Elizabeth Cathcart Smith. Gil graduated from Chester High School class of 1951. He joined the Apprenticeship Program to become a journeyman electrician where he remained for 40 years before retiring in 1991 from IBEW local 654. Gil also served as a reservist in the US Navy. He enjoyed shooting darts and participated regularly in various leagues. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, and the Philadelphia Phillies. In addition to his parents, Gil is preceded in death by his brother, Harold Smith and his longtime companion Miyo Stoop. He is survived by his children, Donna Gartside, Gil (Danna) Smith, Patricia (Phil) Travaglini, David (Maureen) Smith, siblings, Lois Smith, Gene Smith, Jerel (Mary Jane) Smith, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Road, Garnet Valley, PA. on Saturday from 9-10AM with his Memorial Service beginning at 10AM. Interment will immediately follow to St. Thomas of the Apostle Cemetery, Glen Mills, PA.
