To the family and close friends we will lift you in prayer. He was who he is from the early days of school when I knew him - always kind and caring and would look you in the eyes when he talked to you. Kind big heart is what I will remember. Many blessings to the family

Uncle Darrel was like a father to me, he was at my high school football games cheering me on. As a kid vacations at the beach, fishing in the inlet, teaching me to golf. Every Christmas Eve dinner I could I ate with Uncle D, and Aunt Joanie, when the Eagles won the Super Bowl I was there eating kielbasa. Him and Aunt Joanie flew down to San Antonio for my graduation from Navy Biomed school. I always knew he loved me and was proud of me. My heart hurts that I couldn’t say good bye and I won’t be at the funeral. I hope he knew how much I loved him. I miss him terribly. I love you bubba

Darrel was one of those people who everyone loved. Decades after high school he is still remembered for our time there. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

I met Darrel almost two decades ago when he came to work at W.L. Gore & Associates. He was such a friendly, funny, and good-hearted person, it was always a joy to see him and chat. Though we didn't get to see each other often as the years passed, we kept in touch and he brought a smile to my face any time we texted. The world was made a happier place and made more full of laughter and love because of him. I will miss Darrel very much.

My dear friend Darrel,
I am so very sorry you have left us. I am not sorry for you because I know where you are. I am sorry for those of us that were fortunate enough to know you. You had created a persona that had no equal. You taught us to enjoy life and laugh at ourselves and make others feel special. Others merely talked about doing the things that you accomplished and made you unique. Even though I have known you for two decades, I only interfaced with you briefly a few times during that time, but I came to know you as an extraordinary person. With Facebook and messaging we kept in touch, and you always kept me laughing. The size of your loyalty, love, and courage was beyond comprehension. Please put a good word in with God for us lesser mortals. I can honestly say I have not loved many men, but I love you, Darrel.
Thank you for the memories,
Jim Bowers

He was a classmate of mine didn’t know him on a personal level only through Facebook. I looked forward to his hump day posts. And his football posts. He was a very funny man. And you could tell he had a huge heart. I am so sorry for your loss. My thought and prayers to all who knew him.

When I first met Darrell I was nervous because I was learning how to be a manager and he told me you could do this just breathe and you got this and because of him I am now a building manager over motor vehicle in Georgia I would like to say I pray that God gives you rest and to the family he was a hero in my eyes he was one that motivated people to become leaders think on the pleasurable moments that he spent with you and the love that he shared not just to you but to all be blessed

I can’t even imagine this world without Darrel. You hear this all the time… so and so lit up the room when they walked in. This was beyond true for Darrel. Just hearing his voice and seeing him walk into a room was exciting. Exciting because you knew he would make you laugh with his endless humor. His warm hugs never ceased to get old and his kindness was endless. Of course his heart must of given out when the Lord called him home, it could not fit any more love, peace and kindness inside. Darrel, so happy that our paths crossed last fall. Last words after a big bear hug as always when we parted ways were….”Love you to cuz, take care and Peace., I will miss you, life here on earth will never be the same.
Joanie and Delores my deepest sympathy goes out to the both of you. Your lives have been turned upside down with such a tragedy having to say good by to such a wonderful man. You both are in my thoughts and prayers.
