Obituary of Martin J. Taraska
Martin J. "Marty" Taraska, age 87 of Springfield, PA passed away on October 2, 2022. Born to Martin & Anna (nee Carp) Taraska, he was raised in South Philadelphia. As a veteran, he served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany. He resided in Springfield for over 50 years and was a member of St. Kevin Church. Prior to retiring, Marty was an elevator technician for Otis Elevator and maintenance technician for the Naval Hospital.
Marty was an accomplished accordion player and proud member of the Piwo Polka Band. One of his greatest joys was hosting his annual Oktoberfest and entertaining the crowd with his favorite polka music. Marty always had a smile on his face and was well known for his positive attitude, good nature, corny jokes and hearty laugh. He treasured every moment he was around family and friends. Marty was an avid sports fan and enjoyed his outings to BJs, the diner, the casino and the shooting range. Marty will be missed dearly by his family, friends, and neighbors.
Marty is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara "Bobbie" (nee Marano) Taraska who died in 2021, and his two children, Martin Taraska who died in 1987 and Barbara Ann Taraska who died as an infant and eight siblings, Stanley, Matthew, Henry, Frank & Joseph Taraska, Mary Basco, Sophie Seigman & Florence Rucci. He is survived by Judy (Evio) Panichi, whom he always considered as a daughter, and her children Julie (Bo) Christini and Evio, the Ezzie Family and numerous loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A visitation will be held on October 10th, Monday, 9:30AM - 10:45AM at St. Kevin Church, 200 W. Sproul Rd., Springfield, PA followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00AM. Interment S.S. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.paganofuneralhome.com
