Obituary of John "Jerry" G Ambrogi

John G Ambrogi Jr. passed away peacefully in his home on November 3, 2016. He was 58 years old. John (Jerry) was born in Philadelphia on March 15,1958 and grew up in Brookhaven, Pa where he attended, Our Lady of Charity. His family moved to Glen Mills, Pa in 1971, where he attended, St Thomas the Apostle Catholic School. Jerry graduated from Archmere Academy in 1976. He was a three sport athlete and was awarded the Athletic Medal at graduation. He then graduated from Lafayette College in 1980, where he was also a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. After graduation Jerry joined his Father in the family produce business. He was the fourth generation. In 1986 he incorporated and became president of J. Ambrogi Food Distribution, Inc. leasing space until he eventually built his own warehouse in Thorofare, NJ. The company serves the Tri-State area, and has won numerous awards including Purveyor of the year many times. In 1983 Jerry returned to Archmere Academy as an assistant coach for track and field for four years, basketball for one year, and football until 2001 when he became the head coach. His teams went to the state tournament four times and played in the state championship twice while an assistant coach and as a head coach his teams went to the state tournament five times and to the state championship twice. He was awarded DIFCA (Delaware Interscholastic Football Coaches Association) Coach of the Year in 2006 and 2010. Coaching was his passion and the Archmere Academy football field was his favorite place to be. In 2006 he was given the Dr. Albert G Tini Memorial Award, for his Unselfish, Generous and Tireless Service to the Athletic Program, in 2008 he won the Archmere Academy "Alumnus of the Year" award and in 2009 he was inducted into the Archmere Academy "Hall of Fame" for his dedication to coaching. Through coaching Jerry became involved with DFRC (Delaware Foundation Reaching Children) He was Athletic Chairman for the Blue/Gold All Star Football game from 1995 - 2001. He served as the Assistant Blue Coach in 1992 and 2002 and as the Head Blue Coach for the 50th Anniversary in 2005. He has been a Senior Advisor to DFRC Blue/Gold All Star Football game from 1995 - 2016 and a Major Donor from 1991 - 2016. He was dedicated to everything this organization meant to the community. The Make a Wish Foundation of Philadelphia and Southeastern Pennsylvania, was also a very important organization to Jerry. He served on their Board of Directors from 2001 - 2007 and made generous donations every year. Every December his employees also make a donation in his honor. Jerry is preceded in death by his Father, John G Ambrogi Sr, survived by his Mother, Helen Patricia Ambrogi of Glen Mills, PA, his wife Kristy Glisch Ambrogi and their children Jessica, Michael and Christopher of Garnet Valley, PA. Also his Sister Elena Murphy and Brother in Law Tom Murphy and nephews Thomas and Patrick Murphy, and his Sister in Law, Karen Glisch McWilliams, Brother in Law Scott McWilliams and nephew Jack McWilliams and niece Katie McWilliams. Friends may visit on Monday November 7th from 5:00PM - 9:00PM at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Road, Garnet Valley, PA 19060. On Tuesday November 8th visitation will be held from 8:00AM - 9:45AM, followed by Mass at 10:00AM in the Archmere Academy Performing Arts Center, 3600 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, Delaware. A luncheon will immediately follow at the Patio. Burial will be private.
