Obituary of Gladys B. Bailey

Gladys B. Bailey, age 94, passed away on September 15, 2022, in Wallingford, PA, at Plush Mills Senior Living. Born in Richmond, VA, she was raised by her Aunt Pansy Condrey Pinnell and Charley Pinnell and enjoyed boating and many family vacations at "The River" house on the Piankatank River. She moved to Marple Township with her beloved husband, Ed, and four children in 1966 and lived there for over 50 years. Gladys graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, Class of 1946, and also attended business school. She was very active with the Marple Presbyterian Church, attending Women's Circle Meetings, organizing Strawberry Festivals, and enjoyed singing in the Sunday choir for many years. She volunteered at the St. Albans Thrift Shop in Newtown Square and would often buy many items and bring them home much to her husband's dismay! As a homemaker, Gladys enjoyed raising her four children, being a taxi driver, caretaker, homeroom mother while her husband traveled out of town during the week for work. She always presented with a refined, polished demeanor but had a mischievous fun side to her who loved to dance and laugh. Gladys loved her grandchildren and enjoyed many holidays and time with them all. She is preceded in death by her devoted wonderful husband, James E. Bailey Jr., who passed in 2019, and her son, Kenneth M. (Lisa) Bailey, who passed in 2020 and granddaughter Mackenzie Bailey. Gladys is survived by her 3 children; James (Nora) Bailey, III, Janette Bailey, and Brenda (Dan) Bailey-Schwartz, four grandchildren Jacqueline (Matthew) Engle, Miles (Lee) Bailey, Max Bailey, Avery Bailey and 3 great-grandchildren Everly, Emilia, and Lucas Engle.
