I was Steve's roommate during his Junior year at Johnson & Wales. I just saw the notice of his passing in the alumni magazine. Steve was a great guy and a lot of fun. I spent many hours just hanging out with him when he worked as a parking lot attendant. The world will miss him.

Steve founded and directed the Gold Cribbage Club, Delaware County's oldest and only club sanctioned by the American Cribbage Congress for regular grassroots tournament play. He ran a well-organized club which over the years saw many players come and go as their life circumstances changed. For those of use who stayed on for over a decade, we got to see Steve's mastery playing cribbage; a game which has been called easy to learn but a lifetime to master. Steve set the bar high for competitiveness and as a result came out as the top winner for more seasons than anyone ever in this club. We played nine games each Monday night for most years. If a player was to be unfortunate enough to lose all nine games, the resulting zeros lining the score card represented what we called a string of pears. The picture here represents a rare instance when on the ninth game, long-time player Eddie Morett, realized that he had just contributed to Steve's earning an exceedingly rare string of pears. In accordance with tradition, Steve wore the pears to the following week's tournament, as club tradition dictates. and we all had another moment of laughter which came often among all the members of this club which Steve proudly directed.

Steve and I had a lot in common. We were born one day apart, we both married twins, and we both loved the camaraderie of playing board games. At our last meeting, it was Steve, Bongy, and myself and Steve won all 3 games we played, so he takes that win streak with him. Steve was a lot of fun. I am so going to miss, already miss, our time together. My condolences to his family.

I was privileged to get to know Steve over several years while we vacationed with both him and Barbara on the shore. Steve always had a way of making me laugh with his quirky and corny sense of humor and a repertoire full of dad jokes. He will be greatly missed.

I will miss playing games with Steve Fitchett. He taught me to play cribbage along with other board games. Most of all, I will miss his camaraderie and companionship. He was a down to earth person who I was happy to call a friend.
