Eileen was my big sister.
She was nine years older than me and treated me like a little prince. Growing up in Blakely, PA we attended St. Mary’s parochial school in Dixon. I counted on my big sister to save me from the wrath of the almighty nun’s ruler. I would run to me sister’s classroom and tell her that I needed her: Eileen was always there when I needed her.
She went to Blakely High School where she was a majorette and a beautiful, popular blonde bombshell. She loved Andy’s pizza, playing pinochle and roller skating. The things she loved most in life were her husband Eddie and her family. She loved cooking for them…her kitchen was always open. I remember her fabulous fudge and cheesecake. She and Ed built a house across the street from our childhood home and growing up I spent much of my time in her kitchen with her growing family. She and Ed took me on vacations with them: they were very generous.
We remained close over the years and had many good times. Eileen never learned how to swim and was fearful of water, but she did let me take her out on the Hudson River sailing, which she ended up enjoying. These last years we spoke every week…the love lasted a lifetime. I will miss her very much. Love, Ron
