Obituary of Margaret Garrett

Margaret "Nancy" Garrett, age 87 of Glen Mills, PA, passed away peacefully in the company of her beloved daughter and granddaughter on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Rose Court in the Maris Grove Senior Living Community.   She had fought a long and brave battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born and raised in South Philadelphia, Nancy resided for the past 6 years in Glen Mills at Maris Grove, previously residing in Easton, MD, and Swarthmore, PA. After raising her children, Nancy worked as a bookkeeper and eventually retired from the Talbot County Health Department in MD. She had moved to Maryland after marrying Jim Garrett of Easton, Maryland, and the two of them had many happy years together there.  The constants in Nancy's life were her love for her family, her volunteer work with numerous charities, her many friends, long summer days in Ocean City, NJ and the Philly string bands.  She was a graduate of John Bartram High School in Southwest Philadelphia where many of her lifelong friendships began. In addition to her parents, John J. and Viola Donaldson Stewart, Nancy is preceded in death by her husbands, William R. Hollis and James L. Garrett. She is survived by 3 children, William J. Hollis (Kellee), Eric K. Hollis (April) and Cheryl Hollis-West (Kenny), 6 grandchildren, Zachary, Nikkolis and Sage Hollis, Tyler Matthews, and Isabella and Kaitlyn Botak.
