Obituary of Mary Ann Cope

Mary Ann Cope, age 83 of Garnet Valley, PA, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2021 at home. Born and raised in Pennside, PA, she resided for the past 15 years in Foxfield at Naamans Creek, previously residing in Wyomissing, PA for over 50 years. Mary Ann was preceded in death by Dr. David A. Cope, whom she married in 1960. Mary Ann earned her RN degree at the Reading Hospital School of Nursing where she met David. Married for 46 years, they raised four children together, all enjoying Mary Ann's excellent cooking and baking. Mary Ann and Dave loved golfing and traveling with friends. Devoted to her faith, she was a longtime member of Bausman Memorial United Church of Christ in Wyomissing, PA. As Moderator for the Pennsylvania Southeast Conference of Churches (UCC) from 1980-1982, she achieved the highest layperson position within the denomination. She also served on the Board for Homeland Ministries with the UCC from 1979-1987. She was Assistant Secretary of the board of the Children's Home of Reading, and her most personally fulfilling volunteer position was organizing the CROP walk every year for the Greater Reading Council of Churches. She credited the EFM (Education for Ministry, Episcopal Church) course she took and the small group she was a part of for many years with deepening her relationship with God through prayer, journaling, and Bible study. Mary Ann is survived by four children; Kimberly A. Persons (Robert), Kevin D. Cope (Beth), Karen E. Cope-Scarfo, and Keary A. Cope (Lisa), and a brother, David Paul Reinsel (Lynn). Her six grandchildren, Carmine (Cas), Anna (Niki), Eliana, Eleanor (Nora), Delaney (Laney), and Rosie, were her greatest joy. Family beach vacations were a yearly highlight as were hosting Christmas festivities and attending Sunrise Easter services. Any events that combined family, food, and musical performances by the grandchildren were a source of deep satisfaction. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, December 23rd at 10:30 AM at Bausman Memorial UCC, 1064 Penn Ave.,Wyomissing, PA. Donations in her memory may be made to Habitat for Humanity.
