Obituary of Mary E. Kounnas

Mary Murtaugh Kounnas went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, November 7, 2021.  She was 92 years old.  She is predeceased in death by her parents Harry and Charlotte Murtaugh and her twin sister, Catherine.  Mary is survived by her husband of 70 years, Joseph Kounnas, 3 daughters - Lynn Giambri (Philip), Charlotte Kline (Chuck), and Sandy Freeman; six grandchildren – Veronica Torres (Javier), Rachael Teal (Greg), Leah Irwin (Tim), Jennifer Mulder, Brad Freeman, and MaryJoy Francis (Derrick), and twelve great-grandchildren – Nicholas, Lucas, Jonah, Paige, Cyrus, Jameson, Isaiah, Brooklyn, Franco, Leo, Dorian and Daylynn.  She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Mary was born on September 26, 1929, and grew up in Upland.  Mary was a graduate of Eddystone High School’s class of 1947.  She met, and fell in love with her husband, Joe in her senior year of high school.  They married four years later, in January of 1951.

Mary attended nursing school at Chester Hospital and was a caring and compassionate nurse for over 26 years within the Crozer health care system…

Her joy was her family and friends, and her relationship with Jesus Christ, and she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to those of us who loved her most.  We will miss her quiet spirit, her caring smile, and her love for all of us. 

She was a long-time member of Marcus Hook Baptist Church and has recently attended Ogden Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Mary will be held 1:00 pm. on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd., Garnet Valley, PA.  Visitation for family and friends will be held 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm at the funeral home.  The family requests that visitors kindly wear a mask due to the Covid pandemic.  Interment will be held at Chester Rural Cemetery, Upland PA.
