Obituary of Jack R. Sminkey

Jack R. Sminkey, age 86 of Wilmington, DE passed away on October 25, 2021 at Seasons Hospice at Christiana Care. Born in Darby, PA, Jack resided for the past 51 years in Wilmington, previously residing in SW Philadelphia. Jack served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army where he was a helicopter mechanic. He worked as a fuel dispatcher for Atlantic Aviation and retired in 1997 after 38 years. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Child where he participated in the church bible study. Jack was always willing to help others, whether assisting his neighbors with their car repairs or snowblowing their sidewalk. He also enjoyed spending time at the gun range and shooting sporting clays. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Paul and Mildred Smalley Sminkey, Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Dolores A. Shelinsky Sminkey who passed in 2020, and 3 siblings; Paul Sminkey, Ethel Small, and Bill Sminkey. He is survived by 3 children; Brenda Barchock, Carol (John) Rosiak, and Jack Sminkey, 5 grandchildren, Rick Barchock, Amanda Rosiak, Jack (Trish) Barchock, Lauren Rosiak & Marie Sminkey and 2 great granddaughters, Lily Sminkey and Lana Barchock. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 29 from 9:30-10:30AM at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd, Garnet Valley, PA followed by a Funeral Mass at 11AM at the Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Road, Wilmington, DE. Interment will be held privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org).
