Obituary of Barbara L. Smith

Barbara L. Smith, age 72, of Glen Mills, PA passed away on September 12, 2021 at Maris Grove Senior Living Community. Born to Norman D. and Jean (McGlennan) Wilson in Darby, PA, she resided for the past 10 years in Glen Mills, PA, previously residing for many years in Springfield, PA. Barbara graduated from Lansdowne-Aldan High School and went on to receive her degree in Nursing from Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing.

 Barbara was passionate about nursing and worked for many years as a Registered Nurse in the operating rooms at Presbyterian Hospital, Christiana Hospital, and Crozer-Chester Medical Center. She also worked at the Kremer Eye Center. A long-time member of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN), Barbara enjoyed attending their annual conferences with her friends and colleagues. In retirement, she was happiest spending time with those she loved in her lifelong favorite place, Ocean City, NJ, and traveling with her husband Chick. 

Barbara was also a devoted member of the Springfield Ambulance Corps for 34 years, where she served as a volunteer EMT, Membership Chairman, and Lieutenant of both the Tuesday night crew and day crew. In 2007, the VFW honored Barb as the EMT of the Year during their Loyalty Day program. The following year, she was named to the Springfield Volunteer Memorial Wall for her years of dedication and thousands of hours of service to the community. In 2017, she retired and was granted Life Membership to the Corps. 

Barbara was an exceptional wife, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend. Those around her appreciated her joyful energy, love of adventure, playful sense of humor, and her passion for helping others. She will be truly missed by so many who knew her.

 Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her first husband, James Asher Lynch II, and his children, James Asher Lynch III and Paula Ann Lynch. Barbara is survived by her beloved husband, William Charles Smith, Jr., her sisters Linda (Bob) Heilig and Joanne Boltz, her nieces Robyn Heilig, Megan (Tyler) Boyne, Kelly Boltz, her nephew Matthew Heilig, great-nieces Helen and Alice Boyne, and stepchildren Adrienne Keifer, Elizabeth (Bill) Bailey, Thomas (Savannah) Keifer, Georgene (Robert) Goodin, Janice (Gerard) Goldschmidt, and Edwin Lynch, as well as stepgrandchildren Jared, Jaidan, Yeimi, Kelya, Keishliany, Abimael, Meghan, and Michelle, and three stepgreatgrandchildren.
