Obituary of Doris Jean Missar
Doris Jean Missar, age 87 of Boothwyn PA, passed away on August 12, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. Born to the late Wayne and Elsie Rosella Lyons Denman in Lomita, CA, Doris moved to Boothwyn, PA at the age of 7, previously residing in National City, San Diego, CA. She worked as a secretary for Strawbridge & Clothier, and later in life worked as a home health care provider for Concerned Nursing Healthcare.
Doris used grace, dignity, and fairness as her pillars to raise her children, educating them on diversity and inclusion, social justice, and benevolence to others. She was loved and admired by her friends and family, tending to their needs beyond her own. Ferociously independent, fearless, and vibrant, she was voted most popular and best dancer in high school while embracing her athletic side via basketball and tennis. Doris was the embodiment of a mother's love, grandmothers' wisdom and recently, great grandmother's infinite joy.
Doris was a quiet giant and one of a kind. She was smart and witty and would always insert old fashion expressions into conversations like To Each His Own as the Old Lady Kissed the Cow or You'll Catch More Flies with Honey Than Vinegar. Doris sang the Perry Como lullaby, A You're Adorable, to all her children and grandchildren and they would fall peacefully asleep in her loving arms. Doris could be heard listening to Tony Bennet, Doris Day, Andy Williams, and most show tunes. She loved playing Scrabble and was a fierce competitor in 500 Rummy and Bridge. Delaware Park Casino was her happy place playing penny slots (i.e. Hot Tamale, Stinkin' Rich and Wonder Woman) and she also loved traveling, but above all, spending time with her family and friends.
Her life personified F. Scott Fitzgerald's poem, Beauty which reads:
She was beautiful but not like those girls in the magazines.
She was beautiful, for the way she thought.
She was beautiful, for the sparkle in her eye
when she talked about something she loved.
She was beautiful, for her ability to make other people smile,
even if she was sad.
No, she wasn't beautiful, for something as temporary as looks,
she was beautiful deep down to her soul.
Doris was most proud of her family whom she loved deeply, especially her four children. Her legacy lives on in her children Dan (Pauletta) Missar, daughters; Vicki Jean Missar, Beth Ann (John) Barone, Jill (Bill Neal) Missar, and her 5 grandchildren Mia, Megan, J.R., Alaina, and Katarina, and great granddaughter; Emory Rose. She is also survived by her sister, Bernice Wooters.
A great hawk visited Doris on her last day. Hawks symbolize courage, wisdom, reincarnation, and illumination. When a hawk crosses your path see Doris in all her glory and say hello.
Her last heartbeat was loud and pure as the heart it came from. Rest easy mom, may the four winds blow you safely home.
