Obituary of Louis Francis Kurzeknabe

Louis Francis Kurzeknabe, age 92, of Wilmington, DE passed away on July 23, 2021 at Shipley Manor in Wilmington, DE. Born to Louis T. and Theresa Hosemann Kurzeknabe in East Falls of Philadelphia, PA, he has resided in the Wilmington area for the past 56 years. Louis graduated from Roxborough High School and went on to receive his Bachelor's degree from LaSalle University. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps where he served with the 1st Marine Division, 7th Regiment, during the Korean Conflict, where he held the rank of Sergeant. His career was primarily spent in management or as an industrial engineer. He was formerly employed with Link-Belt and the Boeing Company. He retired after 25 years of service at the Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia as an Administrative Management Analyst. Louis served as an officer of the Timbers Civic Association and was a member of the Church of the Holy Child for over 40 years where he served as an usher and member of the first parish council. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Ellen Loughran Kurzeknabe who passed in 2014. Louis is survived by his four children; Frank (Connie) Kurzeknabe, Mary Ellen (William) Otto, Joanne Kurzeknabe, and Cathleen Acosta, two grandsons; Ryan (Elizabeth) Shears and Gustavo (Qian) Acosta, Jr., and two great grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 from 10-10:45 AM at the Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Road, Wilmington, DE followed by a Mass at 11 AM. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Louis' name to either the Disabled American Veterans (www.dav.org) or St. Jude Children's Hospital (www.stjude.org).
