Obituary of Bernard W. Kirkland, Sr.

Bernard W. "Butch" Kirkland, Sr., age 86, of Wilmington, DE passed away on June 23, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital. Born to Charles and Hannah Kirkland in Leiperville, PA, he has resided in Wilmington, DE for the past 10 years, previously residing in Viscose Village, Marcus Hook, PA. Butch graduated from Ridley Township High School, Class of 1952. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and Philadelphia Eagles fan. He also enjoyed bowling and playing the slots at Harrahs in Chester. His greatest joy was watching his grandchildren play sports. In addition to his parents, Butch is preceded in death by his siblings; Charles "Rashie" Kirkland, Jr. and Alice Carney. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Teresa M. Kirkland, children; Bernard Jr. (Kelly) Kirkland, and Kathy (Larry) Wiechecki, 3 grandchildren; Larry (Ashley) Wiechecki III, Jamie Cathcart, and Matt Kirkland, and 6 great grandchildren. A visitation will take place on Friday, July 2 from 9:15AM-10:15AM at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 3200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30AM.
